Three freight cars pay homage to online industries; Pennsylvania Glass Sand in Mapleton, Freedom Iron in Burnham (just off the mainline near Lewistown) and General Refractories in Mt. Union. Freedom Iron Company traced it's roots back to 1795 and became one of the first Bessemer furnaces in the US. Glass Sand is still quarried at Mapleton and shipped around the country today. While probably best known by rail-fans as the interchange point with the East Broad Top narrow gauge railroad, Mt. Union once featured several brick refractories.
