This ready-to-run locomotive recreates the revolutionary diesel-hydraulic that Krauss-Maffei of Germany developed with the Southern Pacific and the Denver and Rio Grande. It is supplied non-sound and DCC-ready, so a decoder can be fitted for digital control. At the start of the 1960s these machines packed 4000 horsepower, far more than typical American diesels of the day, using hydraulic transmissions to avoid the complexity of electrical traction motors.

Item 97810 runs on a silky-smooth and powerful PIKO mechanism that gives great low speeds and precise control, and it rides on RP25 wheels with PIKO knuckle couplers and period-specific details. The prototype KM units were put to work in the hardest mainline service, and while teething problems and a clash of engineering cultures ended their careers within the decade, they left a lasting impression. Item 97810 brings that distinctive locomotive to an HO layout.

Key Features:
- HO Scale Southern Pacific Krauss-Maffei ML4000 diesel-hydraulic locomotive, number 9100
- Piko item number 97810, brand Piko, non-sound version
- DCC-ready on this non-sound version
- RP25 wheels
- Silky-smooth and powerful PIKO mechanism for precise low-speed running
- Period-specific details
- PIKO knuckle couplers
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0644/9371/5706/files/6c0288e5-1f29-5ee0-851a-a42f65ad1442.jpg?v=1784997219
