The Kadee 178 is a special combination that pairs Kadee's #158 scale Whisker metal couplers with unique scale-sized gearboxes, producing one of the most prototypical coupler-and-box setups available in HO. The included #158 couplers feature a Medium (9/32") Centerset shank with a smaller, more realistic head and knuckle, plus built-in whisker springs for true drop-in self-centering. As part of the Kadee Magne-Matic system, the #178 provides smooth, hands-free magnetic uncoupling while looking closer to the real thing than a standard gearbox allows.

Each 178 package includes two pairs of #158 scale Whisker metal couplers with the Medium Centerset shank, two pairs of #178 scale snap-together gearboxes and lids, and two spare #625 knuckle springs. The compact scale gearbox is what sets this set apart, tightening up the appearance of the mounted coupler for maximum realism. Because the couplers are metal, use the provided insulated #178 gearbox rather than a bare metal surface to avoid electrical shorting. Made in the U.S.A.
