EMD built more than 1,100 NW2 switchers between 1939 and 1949 for over 50 railroads, and this model follows the Phase V units of 1949 with their louvered radiator grilles, dual tall conical exhaust stacks, small front radiator grille, and single straight hood-to-cab transition.

Prototype-specific touches on 910-10626 include six louvered side doors with a letterboard gap, large center cab windows, factory-installed grab irons, and the correct headlight style, with or without footboards as appropriate. This ready-to-run switcher is set up for Standard DC and includes a Next18 DCC plug plus a pre-installed 11 x 15mm sugar cube speaker for easy sound and DCC conversion. RP-25 metal wheels, Proto MAX metal knuckle couplers, and the WalthersProto drive with a five-pole skew-wound motor, a 14:1 gear ratio, dual machined brass flywheels, a heavy die-cast chassis, and constant, directional LED headlights complete the model.
