Bigger highway trailers arriving in the 1960s called for longer flatcars, and the 89' channel side flatcar answered the need. Modeled here by Walthers Mainline as item 910-5739, the design is based on the F89F cars owned by Trailer Train and numerous railroads, which over their long careers hauled 28', 40', 45', 48' and 53' trailers. Put to work in piggyback and related intermodal service from 1963 to the present day, these cars are a natural fit for period intermodal scenes in HO scale.

This fully assembled, ready-to-run HO model wears Trailer-Train KTTX #150530 (yellow, black) and is set up for twin 45' service. Item 910-5739 features prototypical C-shaped steel channel side sills and a heavy die-cast metal underframe for dependable performance loaded or empty. Detailed brake gear, a swinging coupler pocket that negotiates 18" radius curves, correct 33" RP-25 turned-metal wheelsets and Proto MAX metal knuckle couplers round out the car. These road numbers are a one-time run offered in limited quantities.
