Description
These distinctive 40' well cars were rebuilt from surplus 48' well cars by cutting eight feet from the center and removing the fifth-wheel hitch plates once used for semi-trailers, then welding the two halves back together. The prototypes entered service in the mid-2000s and continue working today, carrying containers from 20' to 40' in the well and 40' to 53' when top-loaded in double-stack service. Car 920-109141 features a heavy die-cast metal body for reliable running loaded or empty, etched-metal see-through walkways, authentic weld-line body details, factory-installed wire grab irons and brake gear, free-rolling 33" RP-25 turned metal wheelsets, and Proto MAX metal knuckle couplers.
