Amtrak began operations in May 1971, and the Phase I paint scheme it introduced in 1972 was the first of many liveries to follow. The 73' Budd baggage cars went on to serve for decades on Amtrak long-distance trains, hauling checked luggage and express behind a wide range of motive power. Their clean stainless styling made them a familiar sight across the national network for many years.

Item 920-13073 is an HO scale (1:87) 73' Budd Baggage Car from Walthers Proto, a ready-to-run model decorated for Amtrak Phase II #1219 with factory-printed markings. It features prototypically accurate window tinting, factory-installed grab irons, turned RP-25 metal wheelsets and Proto MAX metal knuckle couplers. A modeler-installed extended drawbar is included for operation on 22" radius curves. Because 920-13073 is built to the correct prototype length with full underbody detail, a minimum 24" radius is recommended for best operation, and factory-applied lettering and car number #1219 match the Amtrak Phase II prototype.
